Arrhythmia |
|
An arrhythmia is a disturbance of the normal rhythm of the heart, and a heart normally beats between sixty to eighty times a minute, and over 100,000 times a day. Arrhythmia is when the heart becomes abnormally rapid, slow and/or irregular. They are very common and may occur naturally, or be due to heart disease or other causes, such as a reaction to a drug. Nearly 10 million Americans suffer from arrhythmia or an Alteration of the heartbeat, and in a feature article in the magazine Life Extension February/2005 written by Dr. William Davis advises that you can create your own arrhythmia prevention program by following some simple nutritional strategies. In this article he points out that there is a large body of compelling data that argues strongly in favor of certain nutritional approaches to reducing or suppressing some rhythm disorders, he advises that while it would be ill advised to treat one’s on arrhythmia, great success can be achieved by employing preventive nutritional strategies that may diminish the likelihood of future arrhythmias or lower the frequently and severity of an established rhythm. At the top of the list Fish Oil is listed as an inexpensive, safe and effective powerful way to protect your heart. Fish Oil is the closest thing we have he advises, to an anti-arrhythmia agent. Fish Oil is the most concentrated source of the omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oil not only sharply reduces the frequency of irregular beats, but also diminishes the likelihood of death from dangerous types of arrhythmias. Just eating one or more servings of fish every week has proven to yield a 52% reduction in the risk of a sudden heart attack. The second heart healthy nutritional supplement that you can add to your regular diet is foods rich in Magnesium such as almonds, Brazil nuts, Oat bran, brown rice, Halibut, walnuts, Soybeans, Spinach or Wheat flour. Magnesium is a critical nutrient that helps ensure proper functioning of approximately 300 enzymes. Magnesium supplements are safe and inexpensive, and the dosage that they recommend is 300-500 mg daily. The third nutritional supplement that they recommend is taking Coenzyme Q10. UsingCoQ10 has been shown to be effective in reducing high blood pressure, and has been shown to have a positive effect in stabilizing cell membranes than influence heart rhythms. It’s now believed that Cholesterol reducing statin drugs deplete CoQ10 from the muscle tissue, that in turn causes muscle aches that are suffered by many statin users. This is one the side affects that Lipitor and other such Cholesterol lowering drugs warn you about. This article is presented as information only. Please note that Lipitor is on the worst pills warning web site listed below. |
